Here are a few examples of teachers awarded an Inclusive Classroom Grant in previous years:
Flexible Classroom Seating
“I’m lucky to work with my favorite artists, which are my students. Right now our classroom is outfitted with traditional classroom furniture like tables and chairs. Unfortunately, almost all of our students require special seating because of a disability. So while our furniture is adequate, it is not meeting our needs.”
– Jenny, Visual Arts Teacher in New York, NY
Coding and Tinkering Games
“These items are meant to foster an alternative form of learning that will promote active game play to initiate conversation, laughter and deep learning in the areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math. Because I teach all 500 students in my building, I realize that I have to find clever ways to hook all of my students into my classroom. My goal is to break down cultural barriers that are often built up over time in social situations.”
– Jill, Technology Teacher in Louisville, KY
Soap, Deodorant, Laundry Detergent, Socks, Hair Combs
“We plan to continue our extremely successful before-school hygiene, bathing, showering, and clothes washing program that assists several dozen students a week and over a hundred a month. We purchase these items to assist students who may be dealing with utility shut off, neglect, violence, homelessness, and more. This program is proven successful to reduce bullying and to increase inclusivity.”
– Rose, Special Education Teacher in Detroit, MI
