Prescott Teachers Give Thanks This Season for Classroom Donation From AdoptAClassroom.org

Party in the Pines raises $10,000 in support of local classrooms

Prescott, AZ – November 17, 2016 – Prescott Area Young Professionals today announced a $10,000 donation to the national nonprofit organization AdoptAClassroom.org. The funds will provide school supplies and support for 65 teachers working at Prescott High School, Mile High Middle School, and the Humboldt Unified and Chino Valley School Districts.

The sixth annual Party in the Pines fundraiser hosted in June by the Prescott Area Young Professionals raised $10,000 to be disbursed by AdoptAClassroom.org to benefit local teachers for the 2016/2017 school year.

Jennifer Cummings, a Prescott High School math teacher, received $500 for her classroom. Since receiving the funds through AdoptAClassroom.org, Cummings has purchased basic school supplies such as permanent markers, sheet protectors, and a pencil sharpener to make sure her students have the tools they need to learn.

“The Party in the Pines donation was completely unexpected and has made a great impact in my classroom,” said Cummings. “It reduced the burden on my personal finances and will help support my students this school year.”

Fifty-one percent of U.S. public school children come from families who cannot afford to provide them with the school supplies they need in the classroom. Teachers spend an average of $600 each year out of their own pocket on classroom materials to fill the supply gap. Nationally, teacher spending totals more than $1.6 billion each year.

“Receiving funds through AdoptAClassroom.org is much better than receiving a gift card to a specific store,” said Cummings. “AdoptAClassroom.org gives me the freedom to shop online with a variety of stores and when it’s convenient for me.”
