Shifting from COVID-19 relief to social-emotional wellness
After reviewing feedback from teachers, we believe that the most effective way to continue supporting classrooms in the wake of the pandemic is to focus on social-emotional wellness.
The COVID-19 Fund has been retired, and we are now focusing our efforts on supporting student mental health and social skill development, which was significantly hindered by the pandemic.

What the COVID-19 Fund Accomplished
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in March 2020, students and teachers went virtual. Teachers quickly adjusted their lesson plans and spent more time and money ensuring students could continue learning.
More than two years into the pandemic, teachers were faced with their students’ learning gaps in academic subjects and a lack of social-emotional skills. During the 2021-2022 school year, eighty percent of teachers spent more time addressing students’ mental health. Seventy-one percent spent more money on classroom materials to support their students with the learning tools needed to help them catch up.
Our pandemic relief grants provide teachers with donations to purchase school supplies that support social-emotional and academic learning and immediate health needs, like PPE and cleaning supplies.

“Everyone has felt the devastating effects of COVID-19, but one of our most vulnerable populations are the students we serve at my school. My students are highly motivated and excited to be back, however their reading progression was disrupted during the pandemic, so much of my instruction has needed to change to meet the needs of their emerging reading proficiency.”
—Tracy T., Elementary School Teacher and $1,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant Recipient
“School closures caused students to experience a prolonged state of physical isolation from their friends, teachers, and family members. Because of this pandemic relief grant, students will be provided with books that teach skills about relationships between peers, teachers and mental and emotional well being.”
—Lissette S., Elementary School Teacher and $1,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant Recipient
“Over the last few years, drastic learning gaps have developed for every student. From basic school supplies to flexible seating, this grant allowed me to fill my classroom with things my students need to succeed in their own unique ways. Though the learning gaps are great, the will power and drive of my students is greater.”
—Jordan E., Elementary School Teacher and $1,000 COVID-19 Relief Grant Recipient
