Supporting Teachers Through Legacy Giving: Andy’s Story

Are you frustrated by the lack of support teachers receive? AdoptAClassroom.org is where you can make a difference.

Andy, a retired business owner, is one donor who channeled his desire for justice in education to teachers through regular donations and legacy giving. Here’s how Andy describes coming to the realization that he needed to help teachers:

“My support for teachers is really rooted in anger. I was living in Europe, and around 2015, I was very unhappy to learn that teachers in the United States had to buy their own supplies. This never happened when I was in school. I decided then it was time to do what I could to help them relieve this burden.”

When Andy and his wife moved back to the U.S., they started giving to an education nonprofit that served their community. However, when the couple relocated again to New Mexico, Andy was shocked that he couldn’t find anything like that organization in his area. Instead, he turned to national nonprofit AdoptAClassroom.org.

He was overjoyed to find that he could choose teachers nearby who he could support directly through AdoptAClassroom.org.

That’s not the only reason Andy likes using our platform. I really enjoy getting feedback from the teacher when they get a gift,” Andy shared. “It makes giving worthwhile when you get the list telling you what they bought with your donation. AdoptAClassroom.org makes the donation process so transparent. They make giving really easy.”

Andy has turned his anger into action by making a tangible difference for students and teachers who lack supplies. Inspired by Andy’s generosity? Make a gift to a teacher in your community.

Legacy Giving: “The Right Thing To Do”

In addition to making regular donations to teachers in his community, Andy recently added AdoptAClassroom.org to his will.

When asked why he decided to leave a legacy gift to AdoptAClassroom.org in his will, Andy said, “I put AdoptAClassroom.org in my will because it’s the right thing to do. I worked seven days a week and had my own company. I did what I could as a business to help organizations around the world. But for me, it wasn’t enough. I want to know I made a difference.”

When Andy passes away, his generous gift will help a new generation of students and teachers access the materials they need for a high-quality education.
