MAGNA-TILES, the original brand of magnetic construction toys, donated more than $60,000 to fund over 200 high-needs PreK classrooms in Chicago Public Schools. In addition, to help teachers foster students’ creative learning and play, MAGNA-TILES is gifting each classroom with three MAGNA-TILES Storage Bin Bundles valued at more than $400 total.
Two hundred PreK teachers in the greater Chicago area, near MAGNA-TILES’ headquarters in Bolingbrook, IL, each received a $300 donation through AdoptAClassroom.org to purchase essential school supplies. MAGNA-TILES employees joined the cause to make a meaningful impact by personally delivering some of the MAGNA-TILES sets to the classrooms in their community.
Every student deserves access to resources that spark their curiosity, nurture their creativity, and build important problem-solving skills. Unfortunately, far too many children are lacking even the most basic school supplies.
Eighty percent of teachers said that their students’ families are having a harder time paying for school supplies due to the current economic climate. When families can’t pay for supplies, teachers step up to meet the need by spending an average of $860 annually out-of-pocket.
Why are teachers spending so much of their own money? This past school year, teachers received a median classroom budget of $200. That’s only $8 worth of school supplies per student in a classroom with 25 children. This isn’t enough.
Thanks to the community support from MAGNA-TILES and their employees, local teachers can equip their students with the tools they need to learn while helping their imagination reach new heights.
MAGNA-TILES is a corporate sponsor, but their products are also offered through the AdoptAClassroom.org Marketplace for teachers to purchase for their own classrooms.
