National nonprofit to raise money for teachers impacted by Hurricane Florence in need of replacing lost classroom supplies
Minneapolis, MN — Sept. 25, 2018 — Today, AdoptAClassroom.org, the national nonprofit that provides funding for K-12 teachers to purchase classroom supplies, announced the launch of their Hurricane Florence Fund in response to flooding across the Carolinas. Their newest disaster relief fund is raising money to help teachers replace their classroom materials and equipment destroyed or damaged from the impact of Hurricane Florence.
During the 2017-2018 school year, AdoptAClassroom.org raised more than $77,000 for classrooms damaged by hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria. These donations benefited more than 3,500 students by providing them with classroom supplies they need to go back to school and thrive.
Judson Robinson Elementary math teacher Latrice Hill lost all of her classroom materials to Hurricane Harvey. She received more than $600 to replace her damaged classroom supplies from AdoptAClassroom.org’s Hurricane Harvey Fund.
“My students are overwhelmed with the kindness that has been shown during this very difficult time. Thank you so much for the donation to our classroom recovery,” said Hill.
“It’s not just about the supplies themselves,” said Ann Pifer, executive director of AdoptAClassroom.org. “Our hope is that we help teachers restore their classrooms in order to give students a safe haven and some sense of normalcy as communities begin their recovery and healing process.”
AdoptAClassroom.org is celebrating 20 years of connecting individual donors and corporate sponsors with classrooms in need. To date, AdoptAClassroom.org has donated more than $36 million to teachers, benefiting more than 4.5 million students throughout the U.S.
