In December, 2013, Farmers Insurance launched an initiative to thank one million teachers for their service and dedication. To date, 657,881 teachers have been thanked by former students, current students and others who have been impacted by a teacher.

Today, Farmers announced the next round of $2,500 grant winners. Winning teachers received these grants by 1) being thanked on the Thank A Million Teachers website, 2) submitting a proposal and 3) receiving votes from friends, students, community members and kind strangers.

In addition to thanking teachers, Farmers Insurance is awarding $2,500 grants all year as a part of Thank A Million Teachers.  Recently, Farmers presented checks to winners across the country. Below are photos and descriptions of some of the winning teachers.

City/State: Spring Hill, FL
Grant: Sheryl is using her grant to continue developing ways to teach art through technology. Mrs. Depp will also use the funds to introduce children to new mediums through the creation of various art projects.

Grant: “We are using the grant to integrate hand-held tablets into our classrooms is our goal. Our vision is to use technology across all areas of our curriculum.  We will be able to capture art work, music, communicate with others, learn critical thinking skills and solve problems.  We want to use technology to impact the quality, content, and structure of teaching and learning.”

Grant: The grant will fund a student-created newsletter highlighting student success. The officers of the Student Council are eager to gain the attention of both the students and their parents to make them more active participants in the education process, building a stronger home to school connection, and promoting leadership among their peers by creating a newsletter showcasing school events and celebrating student achievements and success.

Joining the festivities at Carla’s grant ceremony was local agent, Karima Panjwani, who helped promote the grant to the public. At the event, in honor of Maya Angelou, Zende Clark, Director of Secondary Education for Hillside Public Schools worked with the students to reflect on her poetry. The students also read their own poems about leadership. The student council and junior honors society presented Farmers Insurance with a thank you plaque and Zende Clark with a book of poems. At the end of the day, Farmers Insurance enjoyed a cook out lunch with the students in their outdoor courtyard.
